The Generals hosted their third straight summer prospect camp this past weekend and the camp continues to attract great wrestlers from across the country. 18 states were represented between the 49 high schoolers and incoming first year W&L wrestlers. Because of ongoing construction at the Doremus/Warner Athletic Facility, camp was hosted at the newly renovated Student Activities Pavilion. It proved to be a great site for camp, with plenty of space for two mats. The camp schedule was designed to give campers an informative experience and help them learn more about the academic programs at Washington and Lee University, as well as about the college search process more broadly.

Student Activities Pavilion was the perfect site for wrestling camp!
On the wrestling end, seven members of the 2017-18 team participated in the camp, in addition to 11 incoming first year wrestlers. It was the best attended prospect camp to date for our college wrestlers. Everyone looked good and ready to go for the upcoming season!
One of the most rewarded parts of the camp for the coaches is getting the chance to reconnect with W&L wrestling alumni. This year, Rich Redfoot ’89, Manoli Loupassi ’89, Steve Castle ’88, Ron Tassoni ’16, Matt Kaminer ’18, and Zach Papin ’18 attended. In addition football alumni Dax Cummings ’91 and Lyle Smith ’93 had their sons participate in the camp.
Looking ahead to next year, plans for the 2019 Generals Summer Prospect Camp are already underway. Save the date for the weekend of August 9-11, 2019!
