The Generals wrestling team reached two important milestones this past week. They won the team title at the ONU tournament and debuted in the national rankings at #22! Up next are the W&L Duals on Dec 17. W&L will wrestle Greensboro, Trine, and Muskingum before breaking for the holidays.
Tournament Champions
Last weekend at Ohio Northern University, the Generals had 3 champs and 7 total placers, and finished in 1st place with 128 team points, 9 pts ahead of runner up Heidelberg (119 pts) and third place Ohio Northern (115.5 pts). The tournament win was the first in six years, since 2012-13 when the Generals won the home W&L Invitational (now the Jim Crytzer Memorial Tournament). FY Charlie Cunningham (133), FY Ryan Luth (157) and JR Joe Scott (174) won the tournament, while SR Ethan Hartman (125) took 6th, FY Russ Zimmerman (133) took 2nd, and JR Alec Horne (174) took 7th.
Nationally Ranked
The Generals are now ranked #22 in the nation, the first time they have been ever been nationally ranked! Full team rankings are available here.
Ryan Luth named Generals Sports Athlete of the Week
Ryan continues to make an immediate impact in the Generals line-up. He is 14-1 on the season with all 14 wins coming via bonus points (4 MD, 7 TF, 3 Pins). After going 5-0 at Ohio Northern, he was names Generals Athlete of the Week! In addition, JR Alec Horne gave a great interview on the most recent W&L Sports Weekly show.
